Dreams and Aspirations

A dream is something you experience while asleep. A dream can also mean something that you want or wish for but is not likely to happen. On January 21, we celebrate Martin Luther King Day. He gave a famous speech, “I have a dream” in 1963. In that speech he shared his dream of equal rights for all people.

Many people who have dreams to achieve their goals in life have to work very hard. They aspire (direct all their efforts) toward achieving the results they dream of. An aspiration is the hope or ambition of achieving something.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What kinds of dreams do you have (while sleeping)?
  2. Do/did you have a dream (something you want or wish for)?
  3. What would you have to do to reach that dream or to make it a reality?
  4. How do you think you will feel if your dream came true? Or, if you did have a dream that came true, how did you feel?
  5. From your experience, what is the most important thing for success in achieving your dreams? Some people believe it’s “luck” or opportunity, some people believe it’s just hard work. What do you think?
